Cary Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
This street is named for Eleazer Cary, born1718 in Bridgewater, Mass. He moved to Bond's Bridge, Dutchess County, N.Y., with his father Samuel about 1728. Married Charity Sturdevant. He went with the first Forty Connecticut Pioneers to the Wyoming Valley in February 1769, moving his family three years later, and settled in what was then known as Putnam Township, Westmoreland, County. Afterwards known as Carytown, now Cary Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
