Carey/Cary Groups, Organizations and Societies
1. The Wyoming and Lackawanna, PA Branch of the John Cary Descendants - This group has been organized since 1882. A Cary reunion is held every year on the third Saturday of August in the Scranton, PA area. This group was formed to foster the memory of John Cary, born 1766 (son of Barnabas, 1733; Joseph, 1705; Samuel, 1677; Francis, 1647; John, 1610) in Massachusetts and came to Luzerne County and the Wyoming Valley at the age of 23. He married Lucy McKay. This year (2002) will mark the 120th reunion. Historian for this group is Robert E. Naugle at: cohn1rad@yahoo.com President of this group is: Alan Cary

2. Carey/Cary Family Organization - This group is a non-profit organization that has been organized since 1993. They hold an annual reunion in Ocean City, Maryland during the month of October. They publish bi-annual newsletter; have memberships from over 35 states and territories including England and Argentina. The newsletter serves as a excellent way of sharing research; stories; short biographies and queries. Annual membership is $10.00 and includes the cost of the two newsletters. Editor of the newsletter is Helen Simmons Carey at: HSCGenealogy@aol.com. Next reunion (the tenth annual) is scheduled for October 25 - 26, 2003 in Ocean City, Maryland.
